What is psychosocial rehabilitation?

Psychosocial Rehabilitation focuses on developing or strengthening practical skills affected by mental health challenges. RMC’s program uses structured activities and guidance to work on daily living, communication, coping and community participation. Goals are connected to each client’s assessed needs.

Your care options

What clients work on in PSR

Rather than simply discussing a topic, activities create opportunities to learn, practice and apply a skill. Your care team helps identify which skills fit your goals.

Daily living skillsBuild everyday routines

Practice planning and organization related to personal care, household responsibilities, budgeting and day-to-day tasks.

Social & communication skillsConnect with others

Work on expressing needs, listening, appropriate boundaries, cooperation and handling disagreements in everyday situations.

Coping & emotional regulationRespond to challenges

Practice recognizing stress and emotions and using coping strategies that support participation in daily life.

Problem-solving & goal-settingTurn goals into steps

Break tasks into manageable actions, consider options and practice making decisions and following through.

Community participationUse skills beyond the group

Work on skills and resources that support participating in community activities and building a support network.

Job readiness & independencePrepare for the next step

Explore skills connected to education, routines, work readiness and personal independence. The focus depends on the program and your service plan.

Finding the right support

Who may benefit from PSR?

Participation requires a review of clinical need, program fit, eligibility and coverage. RMC will confirm the current age groups and schedule. PSR is a rehabilitative mental health service, not physical rehabilitation or an unstructured social club.

  • People with mental health-related difficulties in daily functioning
  • Clients who need structured opportunities to practice practical skills
  • Individuals working on communication, coping or community participation
  • Eligible adults or young adults whose goals fit the current program
Your first steps

What to expect.

The team reviews your assessment and goals to determine whether PSR fits your care plan.

02

Learn and practice

Participate in guided activities, discussion and skills practice. Ask questions and work on steps that connect to your own goals.

Before you get started

  • Confirm group dates, arrival time, location and participation expectations.
  • Ask whether meals or transportation arrangements apply to your program.
  • Share relevant accessibility needs and practical barriers with the intake team.
A little more clarity

Common questions.

How is PSR different from group therapy?

Group therapy focuses on clinical treatment through a therapist-led group. PSR emphasizes learning and practicing skills for daily functioning. RMC can explain which service fits your needs.

Is PSR the same as a support group?

No. A support group centers on shared support and experience. PSR is a structured rehabilitative service connected to assessed needs and a service plan.

Can I receive PSR along with therapy or psychiatry?

These services can complement one another when clinically appropriate and authorized. The team will review your care needs and help coordinate a suitable plan.

Are transportation and meals included?

Ask RMC about the specific group. Arrangements may vary by program, eligibility and available resources; confirm the details before attending.
